3d-porosity Structural Analysis of Long - Fiber - Renforced Ceramic Matrix Composites Using X-ray Tomoghaphy

چکیده
Continuous-fiber-reinforced ceramic matrix composites (CMC) have been proposed as candidates for high-temperature applications. Their architecture and network of porosity have a strong effect on the mechanical behavior. X-ray tomography is a non-destructive technique that allows studying the volume mesostructure of these porous materials. The volume porosity, the open porosity fraction, the connectivity of the porous network and the thickness distribution of the open porosity are interesting parameters that can be measured from tomographic images.

Fabrication and characterization of aluminum matrix composites containing different volume fractions of Ni3Al powder (5-40 Vol%) were investigated. Ni3Al powder was produced by mechanical alloying of elemental nickel and aluminum powder mixture. Al-Ni3Al composite parts were prepared using a powder metallurgy route involving two stages Al and Ni3Al powder mixtures were first compacted under 500...

A comprehensive study on the effects of energetic protons on carbon fiber composites and compounds under consideration for use as low-Z pion production targets in future high power accelerators and lowimpedance collimating elements for intercepting TeV-level protons at the Large Hadron Collider has been undertaken addressing two key areas namely thermal shock absorption and resistance to irradi...
متن کاملMeasurement of elastic moduli of porous SiC/SiC ceramic matrix composites using ultrasonics
Forced Chemical Vapor Infiltration (FCVI) method was used in fabricating the Nicalon TM!Silicon Carbide composites. Both through-thickness and In-plane (fiber fabric plane) moduli were determined using ultrasonic techniques. The through-thickness moduli were found to be much less than the inplane moduli. Both in-plane and through-thickness moduli were significantly decreased with an increased p...
